Wells Fargo Update

Rory. Wow. 61 yesterday and a goof around 69 today. The guy just makes it look easy when he's on. The three final majors could be really fun if he and Spieth are on for two of them. Throw a half Tiger and half Phil in there and we might really be talking.

John Doyle picked Rory solo, I think anytime you get a win its a great pick but with majors worth double, I wouldn't risk it. Then again, I suck in this pool so that doesn't really matter. I did get lucky that Webb Simpson only choked a little today.

Players Update

Amazing golf. Rickie Fowler birdied 17 three times on Sunday. He actually birdied it 5 of 6 times he played it over the weekend. What the hell happened on Saturday? He only made a par. I'm sure there are days that go by with amateurs when there aren't 5 birdies there all day.

Also fun was seeing fellow GCC members Bill Haas and Ben Martin paired together and trying to grind out a W for $1.8M.  Poor guys will have to settle with $440K each.

The picks were either great or bad, not much in the middle. Joe Eber had Rickie solo and vaults up the leaderboard to 5th place. Five people picked Sergio. Rickie and Sergio were both my favorites but I wasted them both earlier in the season. How come I didn't remember I had already used them? They netted me a whopping $42,600. Why is this pool so damn hard!?

After the picks of Rickie and Sergio there wasn't much. There were 25 picks that were either a MC or netted less than $25,000.

Cadillac WGC Match Play Update

The new format may have helped the top player in the game reach the finals but nobody picked him. Probably because you'd be stupid to pick him in a non-major. Or would you? He netted $1.8M with the win. The top pick in our pool was Jim Furyk by Mark Wilson. Nobody picked any of the other final four players. I venture to guess this is the first time since we've taken 2 players each that nobody netted $1M in total earnings.

How many of you knew Danny Willet before the weekend? I only knew him because he flipped my boys a ball last year at the U.S.Open.

For those wondering how the earnings would shake out, the WGC did pay players more for winning matches in the pods. It appears the guys who didn't advance were ranked 1-3 and paid accordingly. Updated standings...

Zurich Feast or Famine Open

Either you picked Justin Rose or you MC'd. That's what 80% of the pool did. 12 people picked Justin Rose and 14 had either MC or NP including Kyle Rubeling who was the final competition for Cale Harbin in the cuts made streak. Cale nets $230 by picking 15 straight guys who made the cut and two others who didn't have to make a cut.

Also noteworthy this week is our current leader Chris Edwards who picked his fourth winner in five tournaments. Yes, you read that right he's picked four of the past five winners! I'm not sure I've picked four winners in the nine years I've been running this thing.

This year's top 3 would have been in last year's playoff with the amount they've already earned. How bonkers have this year's picks been? Take a look at the very bottom for the top 10 standings at this point last year!

Heritage Update!

Lots to report on this week after the Heritage...

1.) Cale Harbin and Kyle Rubeling are the final two in streakin' race. Standing 25th and 26th respectively, they have now picked 16 straight guys who made the cut and played shitty on the weekend! Nice work Tom and Bill for hanging around but Zach's MC drop you both out of the race.

2.) Former GCC member-member partners Tom Roberts and Allen Freedman both picked Jim Furyk this week moving them up to 31st and 2nd.

3.) Chris Edwards streak of picking 3 straight winners comes to an end. Come on Chris!

4.) I thought I had my 5th pick of a guy making <$20K but instead I double picked Boo Weekley who netted me $0 in two tournaments! :(

The Masters Update

Wow. Impressive. Historic. Legen-dary! But I was bored. This wasn't the same level of excitement Tiger brought in 1997 but I do think we've found Rory's rival, maybe even his equal. The kid has game too bad he made his worst stroke on the 72nd hole, would have liked to see that go down.

The picks this week were also historic and interesting. For the first time since the 2012 Masters nobody picked Phil in a major. And what did he do? He did what Phil does - a surprising T2 finish. Also, I believe this is the first time everyone has made the cut in a major.

There were ten people who picked Spieth and eight of them are in the top ten now including 1-7. Other top picks included Rory and Dustin Johnson. Bubba, Day and Walker picks netted just $80,000 and lose significant ground on the field.

Golf clap for Mark who rolled the dice with Tiger and gained $300K+. I think it was great for him to make the cut and actually finish a tournament for a change. Hopefully he takes the momentum into the Players and really gets going.
