Wells Fargo Championship

Feast or famine this week. Cale feasted with a solo pick of J.B. Holmes jumping into the top 10. Other top picks included Brian (holy crap yes me!), Nick and Sue with Jim Furyk. Jen has hit a mini slump allowing some to close the gap, thanks for keeping it interesting Jen!

Keep grinding folks, we're at about the mid-point in the season as far as money available goes. Big money coming this weekend at the Players, chose wisely.

Zurich

Noh way! Seung-Yul Noh earned his first PGA Tour victory in NOLA. The 22-year-old kept his composure and fired a 1-under 71 on Sunday to grab the title.

A lot of carnage in the pool this week. I don't think I've ever seen so many MCs. Luckily for everyone, those that did see the weekend didn't earn enough to make a big impact.

RBC Heritage

I didn't watch any golf this weekend, but good to finally see Matt Kuchar seal the deal. That birdie chip for the W on 18 was awesome. Guy has been in contention every week the last month or so. Surprised I was the only one that used him.

The Masters Update...

Mike Hubbard rode the Bubba horse from 45th to 5th place with his solo pick of the big lefty from Bagdad. Well, it might be Sue making his picks for him, we'll never know but it's the first solo major pick in quite some time.

I heard from many of you who know me as a Bubba hater. Was I rooting for him to fail again on Sunday? No, I've never been a Bubba hater, I've just expected more from him than he delivered. Hell, I may have expected more from him than he did himself. The guy has as much talent as anyone out there not named Tiger and Phil and he has finally started to fulfill that promise. Look at the ridiculously long tee shots, imaginative chips and putts. Hell if he putted well, he would have won by 10. He left at least 3 shots out there yesterday on the back 9 and left several short today early on. With two green jackets, I'm moving off his case and getting on Dustin Johnson's.

Onto Jordan Spieth for one minute. WOW! Anybody want to retake the poll that we posted two weeks ago? Nobody voted him as the most talented young(er) player without a major. Probably just because none of us wanted to put that label on him since he'd only played a few. It's time. This kid is sick. A little more experience and he may be the next #1 that stays there for a long time. Maybe a little less club tossing and swearing is in order but he's 20, I probably would have buried a wedge or two as well.

Shell Houston Open

Lots to discuss from this week's Shell. One important note to rookies. NEVER pick a top player the week before a major. If they're not in the top 10 after their first round they usually pack it in to MC or in Dustin Johnson's case he just left after one pathetic round. The PGA TOUR needs to put in a rule NOW for these guys that are WD'ing mid-tournament -- pay $50,000+ fine or miss the next tournament. The guys that are shooting 80+ and leaving after one round are hurting the fans and event sponsors. There has been a rash of it going on this year on tour from Bubba to Mahan to Rory and now DJ. Embarrassing for the tour and the players themselves.

As for the tourney itself, another choke job by a tour star without a major. Let's have a poll on the best players on TOUR without a major this time it was Kuchar with doubles on the final two holes. A nice hole out on the first playoff hole for Mr. Jones and he's off to Mr. Jones tournament.

Vote to right on best young player w/o a major.

Valero Update

There was a golf tournament this weekend? I guess I missed it. Steven Bowditch won it with score one shot worse than my solid day yesterday. Probably played a bit further back than we did. Not everyday a 76 on Sunday gets it done. A buddy remarked upon seeing him, it must be the year of the fat guy on tour. A good observation as he's joined by fellow porkers Patrick Reed and Kevin Stadler on the podium. Who's next Jarrod Lyle?

One last note so I can get some more money for my Parkinson's Support Group fundraiser.  Joe Eber has not missed a cut this year, nor has Mr. Barnes and still Mrs. King. Joe asked that I point this out publicly because he didn't like my rule of having to win your first round in match play. So there you go, Joe and John would still both be in the cuts made streak if we didn't have that rule. Joe, that's gotta be worth at least $20 right?

Arnold Palmer Invitational Update

All Hail The KING! Jen King that is, not only is she destroying all of us, she also won the cuts made streak on Friday. How'd she do that? She picked Kevin Na while 80% of the rest of us went with Justin Rose including me and Jason. I didn't see any highlights but the shotlink appeared as though Rose played his back nine on Friday left handed. Jen nets $250 and now won't need to burn anymore top picks until the majors crank up.

Almost as impressive as Jen's run, Mr. Freedman picked Matt Every solo and scored $50 for the rare solo win. He jumps up from 43rd to 24th.
